During 1st quarter, students in 3rd grade will apply their addition and subtraction knowledge from 2nd grade to graphs (bar graph and pictograph), elapsed time and perimeter situations. Students will also be introduced to the concept of square units (Area). Students will use square units to measure area by counting and applying repeated addition strategies, which will lay a solid foundation for multiplication and division. Problem solving will also be an important part of the curriculum throughout the year. Helping students become comfortable and confident in word problems is a top priority.
